General Info

Even though the projects last from September to April, we are always searching for new and interesting project proposals. During the summer, we usually have face-to-face discussions with the interested parties regarding the project proposal topics.

What is needed from the sponsor is the idea for the project: perhaps a problem that exists with current products or technologies, or just some interesting new idea that cannot be investigated internally at the moment.

The final deadline for introducing a project proposal is at the end of August, every year.

If you feel like having an idea worth discussing over, contact us and let’s discuss more!

Signing up for PDP can be done any time before the end of August. The sponsor candidates can propose a topic and present it to the course staff. In mid September, the sponsor candidates will present their topics to the students, who will apply for the projects that interest them the most. The project teams are created based on the student preferences and the skill desired by the sponsor. Once the sponsor has signed up, a contract is signed and the project will begin if a suitable student team can be put together. The representative(s) of the sponsoring company are required to participate in:

  • The project proposal presentations
  • The sponsor brief
  • One of the PD6 workshops
  • The Christmas Gala
  • The Final Gala

F.A.Q.

Project teams consist of circa 10 students. Each student is picked individually to the projects based on their special skills & personal interest. The summarized working contribution of a team is roughly 2500 hours during the academic year.

Ideal project proposal is typically future oriented, conceptual design project that, however, will end at the manufacturing & testing of a fully functional prototype or such like.

Resources needed from the sponsor side are the project fee (15 000€ ) and the “ownership”, that actually means an individual or group who are at least as enthusiastic towards the project as the students will be.

Administration of travelling, invoicing, subcontracting and purchasing expenses if fully covered by the TKK business office.

Written contract, specifying the project plan, intellectual property rights and confidentiality, is always signed by the parties of the project. However, a project must not be fully confidential by nature.

Deliverables for the sponsor include full documentation, the prototype and intellectual property rights, such as they are defined in the written contract.

Project sponsors include companies from various fields and of varying size. Some project’s have also been funded by private inventors and organizations:
Metso, Nokia, Kone, Powerkiss, Safera, Itella, Wartsila, Finnish Red Cross, Fennia, Mestarinikkarit, Vita-Juomat, Lappset, Suojasauma, Electrolux, Tomra, EP-Logistics, Exel, Allaway, GE Healthcare, Rocla, Planmeca, City of Helsinki.
