What is PDP?

Product Development Project (PDP) course is primarily aimed at students of engineering, industrial design, or marketing who are interested in product development of investment or consumer goods. The course is intended for the final stage of studies.

Studying is based on problem based learning (PBL) philosophy. Most of the problems are given and sponsored by manufacturing companies, who are searching for innovative cooperation with the next generation of product developers. At start, much attention is directed to the contracting to work out highly motivated interdisciplinary teams. A project typically includes phases of planning, searching for information, creation of concepts, decision making and detailed computer aided development. Finally, the manufacture, assembly, and testing have proved to the most valuable learning experiences.

PDP-course is operating in Design Factory, which is the first building of the forthcoming Aalto University. The physical and mental environment of Design Factory, constantly under development, is designed to support the teams in their development work from the idea phase to the prototyping and closure as well.
